On March 5th, the American Cancer Society issued a new guideline for colon cancer.  The new guidelines stress the importance of prevention with colon cancer screening.

These guidelines state the preference for colonoscopy as the preferred test for colon cancer screening.  A colonoscopy has the advantage of being able to find polyps and remove the polyps during the same procedure. 

Colonoscopy has been shown in studies to greatly reduce the risk of development of colon cancer (as much as 80% risk reduction).
