Colon cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in the United States.  Men and women are both at risk of developing colon cancer.  Most cases of colon cancer begin as a small benign growth in the colon called a colon polyp.  With routine colon cancer screening, colon polyps and colon cancer can be found and treated.  Many cases of colon cancer are preventable with routine colon cancer screening exams like a colonoscopy.  Risk Factors for Colon Cancer include:

 * age greater than 50
 * family history of colon cancer
 * family history of colon polyps
 * smoking tobacco products
